Positions: 1 Herts 7/10; 2 Bucks 6½; 3 Kent 5½; 4 Middx 5; 5 Essex 4½; 6 Surrey 3½; 7 Oxon 3

David Smith, County Match Controller, writes:
The final entry was an encouraging seven teams, although it is a pity that Oxon could only raise seven players and that there were also two other no shows on the day by named players.
The event turned into a two horse race between Herts and Bucks, which went right down to the wire with the Bucks Board 1 needing a win to overtake the Herts total of seven points, with board count against them in the event of a tie. In the end he lost leaving Bucks in second place with 6½/10. In the absence of their Captain, on U175 duties for Wanstead CC, holders Essex failed to function and finished well down the field.

Positions: 1 Essex 7/10; 2-3 Kent, Surrey 4.
Essex's first ever win in the U180 Jamboree.

David Smith, County Match Controller, writes:
An entry of only three teams was somewhat disappointing; a promised entry from Herts did not materialise, and where were the current (1997-8) holders Oxfordshire? I hope to revert to the usual time of April (2001) for this season's event and will be looking for a volunteer County to host.

Results as received from John Philpott ("
the non-pedantic version, with one extra deliberate initial"). John’s been listening. The grades will do. But to out-Philpott Philpott we have added four more initials, because there are two Ivor Smiths, and two David Barneses. The Barneses are David J and David JR, and infuriatingly they’re both from Kent.
