GRADING STATISTICS

We reproduce some statistics provided 2.7.01 by Chris Majer, BCF Grading Director. (The presentation is ours but the figures are his.) This is based on the current master list embracing games played up to May 2000. The yellow box includes everyone who played any games at all in 1999-2000, but the others include only the 11,087 players with A-E grades. That is, grades in the printed paper list.

The blue box shows the distribution of Standardplay grades. The mean is 113 and the median 115. Chris gives no figures for grades below zero, understandably since there aren't supposed to be any. There are, in fact, 5 Standardplay A-E grades below zero (and 18 Rapidplay ones). They will be correct as far as the sums go but should have been published as 1, which is the lowest grade officially allowed. (Grades of zero are common. They just mean you haven't played any games lately, and they won't be A-E).

Most-active players 1999-2000 (rjh figures): Standardplay 149 games, Rapidplay 124. It may even have been the same person both times, we didn't look.
