OVERVIEW OF RESULTS
Matches shown in red are given in full further down (click on the section headings). Matches shown in blue are not. In the bare match scores of the Overview, an asterisk by a County name indicates a win on board count or elimination. Where a match is given in full, an asterisk by a County name means the result has come from that side (either direct or from the County's website).

* Bd 2 (note 2.5.13). Essex player ruled ineligible, rather late in the day, because ungraded and not cleared with the Controller. (Yes, those are January grades.) The game thus counts as a win for Notts, and Essex are further penalised 1 point for the ineligibility. The match score at the bottom reflects these adjustments. You will recall that the match was originally a win for Notts anyway, on board count.

NOTES

22.1.13
The draw was made 12.1.13 and announced 21.1.13, only two days late.
In all divisions the Semi-finals will be QF(A) v QF(B); QF(C) v QF(D).
4.4.13. The official draw went on the ECF website yesterday, and wasn't quite what we were expecting in a few places. Firstly, the NCCU nominated their teams the wrong way round in the U160. It was done knowingly, as far as we can make out. They may or may not have broken their own rules, but they haven't broken any ECF ones. Secondly, the Open sustained some unexpected changes after a withdrawal: see foot of page. The Draw below incorporates all these amendments.
6.4.13. More NCCU changes. The U160 draw is amended following the discovery that Cumbria did not wish nomination, and in the U140 the NCCU nominations are reversed, having been made the wrong way round by accident. (Lancashire won the Roses match.) These amendments already appear on the ECF website, so you know they're true, and they are reproduced below.

4.4.13
The Controller's treatment of the Open draw is interesting. After Suffolk dropped out, he was faced with two teams playing a Prelim match while another had a QF bye. So he moved the Prelim teams into the QF. One of them (S3) went where the Prelim winner would have gone, and the other (N2) replaced Suffolk. But this left N2 with a home venue, while their stablemate N1 was away. First nominees aren't supposed to be away if you can help it, in the QF. Indeed they wouldn't have been if Suffolk, also a first nominee, hadn't been there to start with. So, once again, two NCCU teams got swopped round; but by the Controller this time.
Should this sort of thing happen? It wasn't slly, and the rules allow it. What is the case for publishing a draw in January or February?

2.4.13
The following item, which appeared yesterday, was of course less than serious. We thought we'd had a weird telepathic happening and got it right by accident when the identical message appeared on the ECF website a few hours later, but the explanation turned out to be more mundane.

Update 1.4.13 00:48. Plans have changed. We reproduce a message from the Home Director, just received by the Union Controllers.

FINALS OF THE ECF COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIPS
Owing to unforeseen circumstances it will not now be possible for the Finals of the Counties Championships to take place in Warwick as previously announced. The Finals will still be held on Saturday 13th July, but at venues arranged by the competing teams. An independent ECF Arbiter shall be present at each final (cost to be shared by the teams).
Venues must be approved by the ECF Controller. In order to equalise travelling distances for all teams, venues will only be sanctioned if they are at least 100 miles away from both counties (or 50 miles if a sea crossing is involved). Matches do not have to be played in England. This arrangement will level the playing field by removing the advantage that has always been enjoyed in the finals by MCCU teams, and if it proves popular it could be adopted permanently.
