NATIONAL CLUB 2012-13

The new season (entries closed 30th October) is under way. Mike McNaughton (Intermediate Controller) has sent us his first-round pairings, and we have the Major from one of our regular informants. On the Open and Minor, traditionally secretive, we have consulted the national Controller and are sure that what we have is right, if not complete in all details.
We rely heavily on match captains for rapid information and results. Please keep us up to date! We'll publish the results you send, as soon as you send them. Thanks, so far, to Chris, Clive, David, John, Richard, Roger and Steve.

FINALS
on Sunday 14th July 2013
We have the Golden Lane results, and what passes for results at Syston.
Open Wood Green 4½ 1½ Hackney at Golden Lane Community Centre. We think that makes 1 Wood Green 2/2; 2 Hackney 1; 3 Maidstone 0.
Major Bedford 4 1 Farnham at Golden Lane Community Centre
Plate Wood Green 3½ 1½ Maidstone at Golden Lane Community Centre
Intermediate Leamington 3½ ½ Maidstone at Golden Lane Community Centre
Plate Cosham w/o def Prescot & Knotty Ash "at" Syston, with one day's notice of the default. The Plate Championship has been won without a match being played.
Minor Louth 3 1 Fenton played at Syston 25th August after a postponement we never really knew the reason for. We understand that the match was "effectively decided" when the Fenton bd 1, an exchange and pawn up, lost by Mobile Phone. That rule's got to go.

OPEN
3 entries (3 last year)
We wrote 17.12.12:
Information is sparse. The Mushrooms website has a National Club post from early this season saying "We will enter only if there are at least 5 other entries." Whether this occurred must be doubtful. The Maidstone website has: "Our opponents will be Wood Green (as per last year). Our first game is to be played on Sunday 17 February 2013 at home." The natural reading is that Maidstone and Wood Green are the sole entrants and are to play more than one match. However, we cannot discount the possibility that there are two other entrants contesting a Northumberland group.
We write 18.12.12:
National Controller Julie Johnson updates us. The Northumberland group was imaginary, but there is in fact a third entrant: Hackney CC. This means Hackney join Maidstone and Wood Green in a repeat of last year's three-team all-play-all, with the last match being played alongside the London finals.
Results to date: Maidstone 1 5 Wood Green, Hackney 4½ 1½ Maidstone played 20.4.13

Gloucester win because their opponents' average grade was over the limit. Bad rule.

MINOR U120
6 entries (6 last year)
We wrote 17.12.12:
From the Fenton (Staffordshire) website it appears that there is a three-team all-play-all group comprising Fenton, Forest of Dean and Bushbury: matches to be played by 31st March. We wouldn't be surprised if there was another group down south as last year.
We write 18.12.12:
There is another group, but not down south. It comprises Harrogate, Louth and Syston. Let's call it the Eastern group.
     Results so far:
Western group: Bushbury 1½ 2½ Fenton; Forest of Dean 2 2 Fenton; Bushbury 4 0 Forest of Dean. Fenton qualify for Final.
Eastern Group: Harrogate 1½ 2½ Louth, and Syston conceded both their matches. Louth qualify for Final.
