NATIONAL CLUB 1999-2000

These results are complete. Only five SCCU winners. Finals with SCCU involvement are given in full where possible.

Seventeen matches, out of 123 or thereabouts, have been defaulted. Including one Final. We've counted one match twice because both sides defaulted it. (It was round 1, and they both went on to play in the Plate. One of them won its first match in the Plate, then defaulted again. The other one won the championship, and actually had to play two matches out of four.)
Three clubs have defaulted in two different divisions.

Prize fund next year is increased to more than £2800 (top prize £400).

Historical notes

National Club entry deadine was 11th October ("entries will not be accepted after that date"). Somewhere around the 19th, when the pairings were already out in the Open and Major, a decision was made at the top to extend it to 1st November. We understand that some of the prizes had also been increased. We got part of this from the U100 Controller, Mike McNaughton, and put it on the site at his request; and the rest of it came at second hand in an email from someone who’d seen that. The Director confirmed it when we asked. The BCF Website subsequently carried notice of the U100 extension. Where the rest of it was advertised, or how many fresh entries came in, we don’t know.

Message from the Director of Home Chess and the National Club Controller
26.3.00
If two clubs wish to make their own arrangements for the Final they are at liberty to do so, provided that they play not later than the 9th July and that a suitable person is present as an arbiter. We would only ask that the clubs inform the National Club Controller in advance. We shall send out cheques for the prize money within 24 hours of receiving a written result sheet.
If clubs wish to use Syston, they are welcome. We have booked the hall to ensure the venue is available. This is in the interests of reducing costs to all concerned.
We are actively seeking sponsorship with a view to doubling the existing prize fund next season without any increase in entry fees.
Cyril Johnson: Director of Home Chess
George Thirlaway Thirl@aol.com: National Club Controller
