YATELEY MANOR
NATIONAL SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP
2010-11
sponsored by Yateley Manor School http://www.yateleymanor.com

This year's entry (see Local Zones below) was a disappointing 148 teams, rising to 153 with the appearance of new teams in the Last Chance Saloons. Summary results appear in red in the Zone lists below. In addition to the Zones there were two Last Chance Saloons on Sunday 6th February 2011 (one at Nottingham, one at Eton) for teams that failed to qualify from their Zones, or did not enter at the Zonal stage.

NATIONAL STAGE

For full match results in the National stage, see Detailed match results. In the summary below, an asterisk indicates a win on age handicap (or board count, if there is no handicap). Failing an asterisk, the higher-scoring team is the winner.
The semi-finals and finals took place at Uppingham School on 7th and 8th July 2011. Wellington College won the Plate as expected, though not without some anxious moments against St Olaves in the Final. Magdalen College School and the Grammar School at Leeds, both below full strength, were well beaten in the semi-finals and had a close tussle in the playoff for third place, with Leeds just coming out on top. In the Championship semi-finals Manchester Grammar School beat Norwich School with unexpected ease while Reading School beat RGS Guildford in an extremely close match which could have gone either way. The Final went deservedly to Manchester Grammar School by 4 points to 2.
With the conclusion of another season we reproduce a message from Andrew Martin on behalf of the sponsors, Yateley Manor School:
"Congratulations to all schools who made it to the final stages. This is an outstanding achievement. On behalf of Yateley Manor School, my thanks go out to all the players, teachers and organizers who made this event possible.
"I am pleased to announce that Yateley Manor School will continue sponsoring the National Schools Championship in 2011/12. We all look forward to another excellent competition."
