THE DRAW
as made 13.2.15 and published 14.2.15. We have unofficially inserted the names of qualifying teams as and when we become aware of them.
A remark on the draw appears at the foot of this page.
Note 30.3.15. We have updated (deleted text is struck through) the Minor Counties and U100 in accordance with notices sent by the Controller, in the last few days, to all captains in those divisions. We fancy he may have sent similar notices in respect of all divisions. If you have seen anything we need to change, please pass it on. There's nothing on the ECF website: the draw there is unchanged since 14th February. Note 31.3.15 We have updated the U180 and U160 in the same way after hearing from others.
We've added further notes to the U100 pairings.
Note 7.4.15. The official draw appeared today on the ECF website (well, Easter was early) and it tallies with what we had, barring our three question marks which wanted removing as expected. So all we need now is the results.

OVERVIEW OF RESULTS
Matches shown in red are given in full further down (click on the section headings). Matches shown in blue are not. In the bare match scores of the Overview, an asterisk by a County name indicates a win on board count or elimination. Where a match is given in full, an asterisk by a County name means the result has come from that side (either direct or from the County's website). Where a grade is prefixed "e", it is not simply an estimate but a figure supplied by the Controller for a "cleared" player.

OPEN
Quarter-finals (A) Kent (S1) v bye; (B) Lancs (N2) def w/o Middx (S3) (this from the Lancs President/U160 captain; we assume the Lancs Open captain agrees); (C) Yorks (N1) v bye; (D) Staffs (M) 7½ 8½ Surrey (S2);

Quarter-finals (A) Suffolk (E1) 8 8 *Essex (S2); (B) Yorks (N1) ½ 9½ Warwicks (M2), or that's what we make it. (Details on ECF site, but their arithmetic differs from ours.) ##; (C) Kent (S1) def w/o Lancs (N2); (D) Notts (M1) 7½ 8½ Middx (S3)
     ## All we knew at first (18.5.15) was that someone had posted a photo of a result sheet showing Yorks on 8½ points with three games to go. Then the full details materialised on the ECF website on the morning of 20.5.15, indicating a Yorks win by 10½ to 5½, adjusted to 8½ 6½ for a Yorkshire breach of the 10-point rule. By late afternoon this version had dematerialised without explanation. Note 30.5.15. The Controller has now posted at https://31.193.4.46/~andreww/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=317&sid=2bec669eba3bf212c1cf9d487d996c09#p2094 giving the background to a Warwickshire win.
Semi-finals Essex (S2)* 8 8 Warwicks (M2); Lancs (N2) 9 7 Middx (S3)
U140
Quarter-finals (A) Hants (W) 9 7 Middx (S2); (B) Notts (M1) v bye; (C) Kent (S1) 9 6 Staffs (M2); (D) Lancs (N) 9½ 6½ Surrey (S3)
Semi-finals Hants (W) 7½ 8½ Notts (M1) (details on ECF site); Kent (S1) 9 7 Lancs (N). Details were not immediately available. Kent captain: "I left my score sheet behind, so excited to win last 5 boards from a hopeless position! Emailed the other captain and he'd left his in the toilet !!!!" (A reconstructed job appeared on Monday.)
U120
Quarter-finals (A) Lancs (N) v bye (B) Herts (S1) 8 4 Staffs (M2); (C) Lincolnshire (M1) 5½ 6½ Kent (S3); (D) Surrey (S2) 6 6* Warwicks (M3)
Semi-finals Lancs (N) 3 9 Herts (S1); Kent (S3) 7 5 Warwicks (M3)
U100
Quarter-finals (A) Essex (S1) 7½ 3½ bye Staffs (M3) (B) Lancs (N) 5½ 6½ Notts (M2) (details on ECF site); (C) Warwicks (M1) 4½ 7½ Surrey (S2); (D) E v bye Kent (S3) 8½ 3½ Norfolk (E)
Semi-finals Essex (S1) 5 7 Notts (M2); Surrey (S2) 6 6 *Kent (S3)
Note 30.3.15. Some explanation of recent U100 changes may be in order. We hope we have it right. The first thing was that the MCCU asked for a third nomination (for Staffordshire). The Controller was willing but felt that it also required a third SCCU nominee. And, of course, agreement from S1 and E(1) to forgo their expected byes. The extra SCCU nominee was easy to find, and we understand that the necessary agreements have been forthcoming. We don't understand why Kent (S3) v Norfolk (E) is that way round.

Grades are August first, where two are given.
1 (bd 12). Could be Mike Smith 118 122 of Fenton Staffs. No other plausible candidate found. 2 Bd 16. Clearly 281590E Muhayedeen Imthyas, formerly of Barking. Never graded, but was 100-ish five years ago. We don't know if he's been cleared to play. The ECF's list of cleared players, "last updated 20th April", seems to be AWOL as well as out of date. Note 17.5.15. It was AWOL yesterday, but has come back with the same date stamp as before and he's not in it. So was he cleared as of yesterday, or wasn't he? * Note 20.5.15. Answer's no, apparently. The Controller has today adjusted the scores (so now 9 - 6) on the ground that Kent's bd 16 was not cleared to play. The ruling is well hidden. To be fair, the captains were told. For Joe Public, the clue provided is that the U140 results have been revised, and you have to look at each match in turn to find out which and why.
If this can happen four days after a match, how about eight? Is there a statute of limitations?

A REMARK on the draw
14.2.15
"Has it struck you that every single one of the teams with a quarter-final bye is at home in the semi-final? There are seven of them. Well, it could happen by accident."
That was our reaction to last year's draw, as you may remember. We couldn't believe it was intended. We mentioned it to the Controller a couple of weeks ago, thinking the oddity might be built into the draw by an unnoticed quirk in the methodology. Our answer came from the Home Director, to whom we had copied. "I can reassure you that, in all likelihood, due to the same quirk of the methodology used being used again, the team with a Quarter Final bye is likely to be at home in the Semi Final." He didn't say what the methodology was, or why the outcome was thought acceptable (or desirable?), so we asked and heard no more.
This year's outcome? Number of teams with quarter-final byes: seven. Number of teams with quarter-final byes followed by a home semi-final: five. We might even have bought "chance" this time if the Home Director hadn't denied it. Help, someone. Where is the advantage in this?
