     incorporated in the London Junior 29-30 December:
Under 18 (incorporated in the London U21 FIDE rated event) Lorin D'Costa 196 (Royston) 5/6: SCCU prize £25 and the Hassabis Trophy. 2nd on tie-break was Murugan Thiruchelvam 203 (Richmond Juniors) 5/6: SCCU prize £25. Both (and especially Murugan!) are comfortably under 18. They were =1st in the U21.

Under 9 Callum Kilpatrick of Dulwich Hamlet Junior School & Richmond Juniors, who came =6th in the Under 10 Major tournament with 5/7 and took the SCCU title (prize £25) on tie-break from reigning Champion George O'Toole. Another U9, Eugene Geidelberg 80 of Hants, already WECU U10 Champion, was =1st on 6/7 together with two U10s. Eugene was not eligible for the SCCU title. As a Hants junior he would have qualified, had he played in the SCCU U14/90 league previously, or the Herts centenary match.

An update 25.10.00. At the extended closing date of 20th October, entries stood at 237. Two days later they were at 241, and there they seem to have stopped. (They'll have to, now.) Last year's 208 was almost certainly a blip. We're told it used to be pushing a thousand, but that was in the good old days. It could be true. Seventies/early eighties? Anyone know?
