WHAT’S NEW on the site?

Only the major additions are noted here. Minor roadworks go on all the time. If the date on the front page suggests an update not mentioned here, it may be an odd new result in, say, the Yateley Manor; or a result in the ECF Counties National Stage which does not involve SCCU people. The Links page was last updated 27.4.12. The Ragbag gets added to any old how, but last changed 9.8.12.

  • The August revision of the ECF grading list went live this morning. This is the version that counts for eligibility all through the season in SCCU County matches. Captains are advised to check it, because more than 250 Standardplay grades have been revised.

  • The QF results are all in, and they are pleasing to an SCCU eye. We have 14 semi-finalists from an original entry of 18 (and of our four losers, three went out by default). No other Union has more than 6 semi-finalists if we've added up correctly. Chicken-counting would be unwise, but is 14 semi-finalists a record?

  • The SCCU Executive Committee met on schedule 30.3.12. Report shortly, but you may like to note that the SCCU Championship 2012-13 has been awarded to the Hastings International 2012-13, and BCQ places to the London Classic and the Weald Congress.
  • Which means we have another BCQ place to give. We ran out of applicants. Further applications are now invited. Applicants should be, or should be prepared to become, Members (either County or non-County) of the SCCU. Contact the SCCU Secretary by the end of April 2012.
  • ECF-Stage pairings 2012. We find, on consulting the ECF website, that the pairings in a couple of places are not what we expected.
  • We are asked to say that David Welch, ECF Chief Arbiter, will be running a training course for prospective ECF Arbiters on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May at Wellington College, Crowthorne. The weekend will finish with the Arbiters' Examination, which lasts two and a half hours. For further information contact David on 0151 733 1866.

The list will always be available from the Fixtures and League tables pages, and from the County results pages (except Open).
  • British Championship 2012: qualifying place. The SCCU is pleased to offer a qualifying place which has unexpectedly become available. It can go to any congress in the SCCU area which is run by an SCCU member organisation, or which agrees to take out SCCU membership. (Non-County membership is open to independent congresses.)
